A very satisfactory set of results from our young City of Southampton Swimming Club Swimmers this weekend at Swansea. It is really encouraging to note that the following swimmers have in early January secured their places for the National Championships 7 months ahead of event:-
Ben Stevens (11yrs) - 100m & 200m Butterfly Tom Diaper-Fox (12yrs) 800m & 1,500m Free Bas Burnel (13yrs) - 200m Breaststroke Emily Ard (14yrs) - 100m Breaststroke Ashely Ball (14yrs) - 100m & 200m Butterfly
Congratulations to these swimmers.
There were some really good swims over the course of the weekend, which is yet another indication that the ‘Tough Training Regime’ and programme is working really well. With much hard work ahead of us, I know that we can and will swim faster. However, it is no secret that the key to these swimmers success is down to the two ‘A’s – Attendance & Application in training.

Whilst the majority of swims were satisfactory I have to be candid and report that some were not, psychologically some of swimmers need to believe in themselves when they stand on the block, I assure you that if you ‘Attend & Apply’ yourself in training that we are doing the right training to achieve individual success. Additionally swimmers need to look at their pre-race protocols, whilst sleeping away in hotels etc, it is always a good idea to bring your own pillow, get to bed at a sensible time, and eat the right foods that aid recovery (…again not junk). It is a learning process, however we need to be smart and learn quickly from mistakes.
Consistency is the Hallmark of Success
