Success continues at Swansea Open Meet

Southampton swimmers travelled to Swansea over the weekend of 14-16th May for the Swim Swansea Long Course Open Meet, held in the Wales National Pool. The weekend proved to be very successful, with more national times and personal bests, the team now includes 12 swimmers who have qualified for the 2010 Nationals.

Once again I believe we did ourselves proud, 22 x National Qualifying Swims , 26 Medals,
65 Other Top 8 Positions from 20 swimmers is a really good result.

Well done to all our swimmers, it is good to see our swimmers taking on more events when competing in Open Meets especially at this open meet, where there are finals for 100’s & 200’s.

Congratulations to Harry Fryer (12yrs) who achieved his first National Age Group Qualifying Time in the 400m IM. Harry is just 1 second out on two other events, which I believe he can achieve at the SE Region BAGCAT Championships.

Special congratulations to Indiana Shanker (14yrs) who also achieved his first National Age Group Qualifying time in the 200m Backstroke, like Harry, Indiana is very close on the 100m Backstroke.

Without doubt there were some really good swims, which should be noted:

Tom Diaper-Fox (13yrs) – Tom’s 1,500m Free was superb going through the 800m mark 10 seconds inside the 800m National QT and finishing some 38 seconds inside the National Qualifying mark is very good indeed, holding 1:09’s and 1:10’s all the way.

Ben Stevens (12yrs) – Goes from strength to strength now that he is starting to realise his potential achieving the 400m IM National QT to add to his fast 100m & 200m Butterfly National times.

Karl Heather (15yrs) – Going 5 seconds inside the 400m IM National Youth time adding to his 100m & 200m Backstroke and 200m IM (…pity Karl squandered the opportunity in the 800m Free though!).

Ashley Ball – Ashley will be celebrating his 15th birthday this week in winning the 13-14yrs top BAGCAT boy award.  Ashley swam inside the 100m & 200m Butterfly National Youth times in both Heats and Finals of these events.

Full results are available to view on the Swim Swansea website.

The next big competition for our Age Group swimmers will be the SE Region Championships and for those Youth swimmers that have qualified for Nationals – Sheffield calls!

For those swimmers who have not quite made this cut we are now in training for the ‘Fareham End of Season Open Meet’ held here at the Quays (entry forms are now available, but the closing date is fast approaching).

As I have reiterated many times previously, the difference and progress all our swimmers will make between now and the end of the season will be the swimmers 'Attendance and Application' in Training.

Вперёд,
Вперёд.
