If you are aged over 25 and wish to gain better health, better fitness or make new friends through swimming the Masters section of the City of Southampton Swimming Club is ideal. The club encompasses a whole range of abilities from casual fitness swimming to highly organised competitive swimming. Everyone has his or her reason for swimming-health, general fitness, camaraderie, just for fun. How far you go is up to you. There are currently some 5,000 swimmers of masters age (25 to 70+) registered with the Amateur Swimming Association in the U.K.
The Masters section of the club presently has approximately 35 to 40 members. We have two dedicated sessions at The Quays per week, with the training program presently set by the head coach. The main club session is on Thursdays from 20:30 to 21:30, and both this and the Tuesday night session (19:30 to 20:30) are coached by James. The lanes are generally organised by ability, so even if you haven’t swum for years there will be a level to suit you.
Through the club there is the opportunity to attend several masters galas throughout on the year. There are also several social events organised throughout the year, to supplement our weekly trip to the pub after training on Thursdays. Fees are tailored to the number of sessions you wish to attend per week (ranging from £13 for 1 session / week to £24 for 3 sessions / week). In addition, everyone who swims with the Masters needs to be registered with the club (£35 per year) and the ASA (details and costs on application form). If you are interested in joining us simply turn up to the main session (Thursdays 20:30 to 21:30) or email:csscmasters@googlemail.com
