Saturday 13th December

Southampton secure promotion to the premier league! - David Terry, Head Coach, sums up the performance: "On Saturday night we displayed great tenacity and alacrity against some really strong opposition, every swimmer on the team ‘Swam their Heart’s Out for the Team,’ basically it was GREAT to see! If anyone doubts swimming is not entertaining they should go and watch the National Swimming League Galas". Southampton produced a stong performance in a close final round of the National Swimming League held at Waterlooville. Although Southampton led from the start, Oxford were always close behind with the lead only a single point at one stage, however as with the previous rounds, Southamptons strength in depth was evident in the relays. Overall league positions are as follows:

  1. City of Southampton - Promoted as CHAMPIONS!
  2. City of Oxford - promoted as runners-up
  3. Basingstoke Bluefins A
  4. Winchester City Penguins
  5. Fareham Nomads
  6. Wycombe District

This means that next year Southampton will be taking on the likes of Guildford City, Leatherhead and Bracknell in the Southern Premier division. In reflecting on Saturday night’s results WE CAN RISE TO THIS CHALLENGE!

Southampton won the top club award by over 100 points, including 22 gold, 32 silver and 19 bronze medals, but what was most impressive were the 107 pbs that were achieved by the team! In addition 130 Hampshire Qualifying times were achieved, and had the times been available it is likely that many South-East regional times would have been too. Results from a very successful weekend are now available.

Overall results also available by session:

Sunday 16th November
Southampton masters help Hampshire to second place! - Three Southampton masters swimmers were selected to represent Hampshire in the annual inter-county masters competition that took place in Crook Log, Bexleyheath at the weekend. Once all the results were added together from across the country, Hampshire came equal fifth with Devon, with Warwickshire winning the overall title.

Sunday 2nd November
Club Championships finals day - On 2nd November swimmers from all squads at the club descended on the Quays for the annual club championships. The events ranged from 25m sprints for the Piranha squad up to 50m/100m/200m swims for the junior and senior squads. Overall a large number of personal bests were set, reflecting on the hard work that is being put in during training sessions. This was particularly evident among those who attend the most morning sessions and do not have to take multiple 'toilet stops' or have to play with their goggles each session. Full results including the 400m, 800m and 1500m events are available to view.
